Music Matters Student One of Illinois' Best

On January 30, 2010, Music Matters percussion student Mallory K. performed at the Illinois Music Educators Associations All-State Conference with the IMEA Honors band.  The conference meets every year in Peoria, IL and students, band and orchestra directors come together to celebrate music education and performance.  Only the top musicians in the state are invited to audition.

Students arrive on Thursday, take some time to check in and then audition in the early afternoon.  After the audition they will be placed in a band or orchestra with the top ranking musicians being placed in either Honors Band or Honors Orchestra.  Mallory earned 2nd Chair in the Honors Band. This is a great accomplishment and should be celebrated.

The Honors band was led by composer and conductor, David R. Gillingham, Central Michigan University, Mt. Pleasant, MI.  The band performed many of Dr. Gillingham’s works including Sails of Time, a wonderful piece commissioned by Kingsway International written to celebrate the rich history of Sydney, Australia, and to honor the beauty of grandeur of this magnificent city identified by the icon of the sails of its famous Opera House.

Mallory is now a senior in high school and plans on continuing her music studies in college.  Music Matters is very proud to have Mallory be apart of our community and of this wonderful accomplishment.  Bravo!
